Primary accountability
The Special Events Intern will work closely with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Kansas CEO/Executive Director. The primary focus will be to support planning, outreach and logistical objectives for three major events., which provide critical funding for Ronald McDonald House operations. This opportunity will allow the intern to gain significant hands-on experience in the fields of event planning, marketing, hospitality management and public relations.

Work schedule
20-40 hours/week; as negotiated

Major duties
The internship will provide planning, outreach and logistical support for three complex fundraising events:
• Charity Golf Tournament, Monday, May 22, Lake Shawnee Golf Course, Topeka
• Pull a Plane Challenge, Saturday, June 10, American Flight Museum, Forbes Field, Topeka
• Denim to Diamonds gala, Saturday, Aug. 26, Downtown Ramada Inn Hotel & Convention Center, Topeka

Duties include
• Work with CEO and Planning Committee members to coordinate event logistics
• Event planning, promotion and on-site execution, including set-up and teardown
• Maintain up-to-date event documents, including site-schedule forms and action plans
• Procure and organize supplies and materials for events
• Design flyers and posters
• Create social media content
• Participate in planning committee meetings with Board members and community representatives
• Solicit and secure donations of auction items and event sponsorships
• Recruit and train event volunteers
• Other duties as assigned by the CEO/Executive Director

• High school diploma with at least 30 credit hours completed
• Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Must have strong interest in event planning and marketing
• Previous volunteer or nonprofit experience a plus
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• A "can do" attitude and desire to learn
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently
• Creative and detail oriented
• Ability to lift 25 pounds and stand for long periods of time
• Some late evenings and weekends will be required
