Taiju Takahashi graduated from the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications in 1991. He gravitated toward broadcast journalism because of his passion for learning, recording history, and seeing the world.
Takahashi started as a reporter in his hometown of Topeka, Kansas, and has been in a number of high-profile positions from coast to coast.Takahashi is currently the assistant executive news director at TEGNA’s KGW-TV in Portland, Oregon.
Previously, he served as news director at WAND-TV in Decatur, Illinois, where he helped turn a No. 3 station into the ratings leader. He has also been a news director at WTVQ in Lexington, Kentucky. He has held executive producer positions in Jacksonville, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia and Seattle, Washington.
Takahashi has won numerous regional and national awards, including a national Edward R. Murrow award for spot news coverage.In his spare time, Takahashi spend a lot of time volunteering. He is an officer for the Knights of Columbus. He has also served on the American Red Cross Board of Directors. He has mentored dozens of aspiring journalists. His motto is: “The day you lose your passion to learn is the day you need to leave the business.”
