Communications Intern


The Kansas Public Employees Retirement System is seeking an intern to assist the Communications Department with ongoing member engagement and retirement readiness projects. This will include working with communication specialists and digital communications specialist to develop content and graphics for the web, videos and print publications for departments projects.

The ideal candidate should be a dynamic self-starter, at the junior- or senior-level working toward a degree in journalism and mass communications, business, marketing, graphic design or related field. Candidate should be able to work independently on a wife variety of digital communications initiatives.

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (such as After Effects, Dreamweaver, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Premiere Pro).

This will be a paid internship, up to 20 hours per week. Schedule to be determined, but the team would prefer candidate to be in-office Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday.

Prospective Projects

Member and Employer Communications

• Assist with publication edits to update materials with new brand look-and-feel (flyers, booklets, calendars, etc.)

• Help with member and employer workshop/webinars planning/content

• Content development for member communications (website, newsletter, etc.) and employer communications (to help HR representatives educate employees ahout KPERS benefits in email, staff intranets and/or newsletters)

• Assist digital communications specialist with photography as needed

• Special projects as assigned by the communications officer

Internal (Staff) Communications and Intranet

• Assist staff with communications for pension administration system modernization project

• Assist with design of new branded office artwork to encompass all floors in building

• Assist with sourcing branded items/giveaways for all agency meeting/all staff

• Assist with sourcing branded items/giveaways for all agency meetings/all staff

• Assist with collecting/sharing member/employer feedback

• Assist with HR messaging related to staff benefits or other relevant news (work anniversaries, construction updates, etc.)
