Getting involved and networking with peers is one of the best ways to jump-start your future professional career. You can start gaining valuable experience working with our faculty advisors and other students in our media, marketing and communications student organizations within your first days on campus.

Sophomore Chad Cushing was a finalist in the 2023 Hearst Journalism Awards Program competition, placing seventh in the Photojournalism, News and Features, category.

KUJH-TV

Students interested in broadcasting -- in front of or behind the camera -- find KUJH-TV the place to hone their skills by producing news, sports and weather programming. KUJH-TV broadcasts at 4 p.m. every Wednesday. Watch live or recordings at tv.ku.edu.

The University Daily Kansan is consistently ranked among the top college newspapers in the country. Students who work on the Kansan find themselves on a fast track to some of the nation’s leading multimedia news outlets. The Kansan also provides opportunities to work in advertising, design and online journalism.

As the only journalists providing local news coverage to this small town east of the KU campus, students working for the Eudora Times are a valued part of this community, which has been a news desert since its newspaper closed several years ago.

KU AD CLUB

The KU Ad Club is an excellent way to find out more about advertising career options. by bringing in guest speakers, providing networking opportunities, attending the Kansas City Career Day and arranging agency crawls, members gain contacts within the industry.

KU PRSSA

KU PRSSA offers opportunities for students who are interested in the public relations industry to explore the wide range of career options and make connections in the industry through guest speakers and visitors. Club members meet regularly during the fall and spring semesters.

STUDENT AMBASSADORS

Journalism student ambassadors help prospective students learn more about all of the amazing opportunities available in the J-School. They lead tours of Stauffer-Flint Hall and assist the recruiting coordinator in answering questions about what it's like to be a Jayhawk Journalist.

LEADERSHIP BOARD

The Journalism Student Leadership Board members are nominated by faculty members for their character, leadership qualities and dedication to improving the school. Board members meet regularly with the dean and top administrators to offer their input and advice on issues affecting J-School students.
