KU journalism seniors, come join the Lawrence Journal-World as a part-time community reporter today, and then move into a full-time position upon graduation.
The Lawrence Journal-World has an immediate opening for a full-time, community reporter. This position will help readers better understand our community by telling the human stories behind the court cases, by digging through the court files to find interesting trends, and by being a trusted source on breaking news. While crime and public safety reporting is a significant part of this position, it also offers ample opportunities to pursue a broad range of local news and feature articles.
The Lawrence Journal-World is a six-day per week newspaper that operates the region's most comprehensive news website, LJworld.com
We are seeking candidates who are curious, understand the importance of accuracy and timeliness, have demonstrated writing skills, are committed to ethical journalism and appreciate the importance of local news in a community.
We are open to candidates of varying experience levels, including excellent journalism students who are nearing the completion of their degrees. The position's compensation range is $35,000 to $40,000, depending on experience.
At the Journal-World, you will join a newsroom of approximately 10 full-time, dedicated journalists, including a team of locally based copy editors and designers who produce award-winning print and digital products.
Journalists here also are fortunate to work in a community that values local journalism. The Journal-World is well supported by subscribers, including a growing base of digital subscribers.
Lawrence is a vibrant, young community. We are home to the University of Kansas, have an attractive downtown entertainment district, many outdoor recreational opportunities, and are a short drive from many of Kansas City's most popular destinations.
