Marketing and Communications Specialist


This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer of the Downtown Investment Authority (DIA) or designee and is responsible for developing and implementing a communications, public relations and marketing plan for the Downtown Investment Authority along with necessary marketing, graphic design, advertising and media content, leading the development and launch of marketing/social media campaigns, and management of website content and appearance for multiple sites. Work will include preparation of PowerPoints, speeches, and other materials for presentations. Employee must be able to establish priorities and schedule workflow.  Primary responsibilities include the following:

• Develops the DIA communication and public relations plan, and a marketing plan for investment in Downtown, to include brand management, website and social media content as well as print collateral.

• Collaborates with leadership to develop communications and marketing to meet goals, drive brand recognition, and write copy and messages for print material and digital content.

• Provides art direction, overseeing graphic design consultants.

• Develop customized templates and material for DIA.

• Writes, edits, and reviews content for marketing and communication materials, including advertisements, brochures, fliers and other collateral.

• Oversees the preparation and distribution of press releases and articles.

• Manages the development, distribution and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including marketing materials and all DIA maintained websites.

• Develops, produces, and edits content for Web and collateral materials.

• Designs, produces and updates DIA annual reports and other annual publications

• Monitors daily media coverage and compiles daily logs; seeks out articles or rankings promoting Downtown Jacksonville.

• Prepares application for awards and honors for which DIA or Downtown Jacksonville qualifies.

• Serves as department contact with office's printing needs.

• Supports research efforts that underpin marketing strategies.

• Posts notices of Sunshine meetings as needed; ensures Sunshine  and ADA compliance on websites.

• Communicates clear direction through written and verbal communication and manages for results.

• Performs  related duties as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  Five years of education and/or professional experience in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing or a related field which includes three years of experience in at least two of the following web management, copy writing, graphic layout and design, social media marketing is required.  Advanced competency in PowerPoint including layout, imbedded video content, and data presentation. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required. Experience in graphic design and using graphic design software is preferred.
