Biography

Barbara Padget, a William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications graduate, has been teaching writing and editing at KU since 2015.

Previously, she spent 24 years teaching journalism and advising publications at several Kansas high schools. Her publications staffs received several awards during those years, including two Gallup Awards and 12 International First Place Awards from Quill & Scroll International Honorary Society.

During that time, she earned a National Master Journalism Educator certificate, and she won the Jackie Engel Award, which is the Kansas Journalism Teacher of the Year award, in 2004. She also received a National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts Award from KU in 2005.

She was a student of both John Bremner and Calder Pickett, and she aspires to emulate their teaching philosophy.
