Biography

Gerri Berendzen previously was a Knight visiting news editor at the Columbia Missourian and a visiting assistant professor on the Print and Digital News faculty at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. At MU, she focused on interactive news editing, fact checking and digital verification. During her 30-plus-year career in newspapers, she worked as a copy editor, page designer, digital editor and reporter for newspapers in Missouri and Illinois, most recently directing the print/digital/design desk at the Quincy (Ill.) Herald-Whig. She served on the national board of ACES: The Society for Editing” from 2005-2018 and is a lifetime member of the organization. Berendzen received a master’s degree in journalism from the Missouri School of Journalism in 1986 and an honors bachelor’s degree from Saint Louis University in 1980.
