Biography

After an accomplished career in television broadcasting, Mike transitioned into new and different challenges including strategic consulting and teaching Journalism 611: Sales Strategies at his alma mater, KU's William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. 

Upon graduating from KU, Mike began working in print with a suburban magazine and weekly newspaper in Kansas City. He then transitioned to television broadcasting in Kansas City with one of the leading independent television stations in the country at the time, KBMA.  Mike has worked for several major broadcast groups as well as local ownership. Much of his career was in sales management, serving in multiple managerial positions and as vice president and general manager of the NBC stations in Tulsa and Kansas City. 

Mike has served on numerous boards, including the NBC Sales Advisory Board, the TVB Sales Advisory Board, President of the Broadcast Executives of Tulsa and the Tulsa Executive Association, as well as local community boards including the Tulsa Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and the Salvation Army. He currently serves on the advisory board of the Salvation Army in Kansas City and was the 2019 recipient of the William Booth Award, presented for outstanding contributions for the betterment of humanity, through personal participation in civic and philanthropic affairs. He is a board member of the William Allen White Foundation and was recently named chairperson of the advisory board for the University Daily Kansan, Kansan.com and Jayhawk Media Group.

Mike lives in Kansas City with his wife, Mary.  They have three daughters, two of whom graduated from the KU William Allen White School of Journalism and six grandchildren.
