Sports Information Director


This position is responsible for writing and producing a weekly digital newsletter, and serves as the primary contact for external communications.

Part-time, freelance, paid.
Time varies: approximately 8 hours per week

Schedule
May 12-26 - preseason planning
Create newsletter outline and template

May 27-July 30 - regular season and postseason
Attend select ballgames approximately one night per week
Select Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week finalists and winners by Saturday following the weeklhy games
Write and publish newsletters; emailed Sundays, June 1-Aug. 10

Aug. 1-5 - All-Star Game coverage
Generate media coverage for All-Star Game
Aug. 6 supervise media at All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium

Responsibilities
• Handle all aspects of weekly digital newsletter (Beacon), including: create template, determine content, report, write articles and headlines, and select photos
• Coordinate with photographer to determine photos needed for newsletters
• Select and write summaries for Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week finalists and winners
• Write web content to increase awareness, promote the league and attract the best players
• Establish a strong working relationship with coaches, players and staff
• Establish relationships with media representatives and college sports information directors and communicate relevant information to them
• Generate media coverage for All-Star Game on Aug. 6 at Kauffman Stadium and serve as point person at the game
• Collaborate with marketing manager, website coordinator, photographer, social media coordinator and other staff members, as needed

Qualifications
• Love baseball and deep understanding of baseball
• Bachelor's degree or pursuing a degree in journalism, communication, sports management ore related field
• Demonstrated excellent reporting and writing skills using compelling copy to capture the attention of digital readers
• Demonstrated ability to create newsletters using Constant Contact (or equivalent software) and post news to websites
• Basic knowledge of web design and content management systems (i.e., SportsEngine)
• Basic graphic design and photo editing skills
• Ability to use GameChanger
• Experience writing and sending news releases and following up with media representatives and college sports information directors
• Responsible, organized, collaborative, uses good judgment and meets deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to work well and communicate effectively with players, coaches, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality
