Spring Intern
POSITION SUMMARY
Assist with planning, coordination of legislative outreach and general association events in Kansas and in Washington, D.C.
Assist with research, data collection, and data analysis in support of KEC’s advocacy efforts.
Support grassroots advocacy programming.
Assist with the weekly legislative correspondence with members.
Assist with the planning of summer youth programs.
Provide support at KEC events. Note: Support for the KEC Winter Conference may take place after regular business hours or on a weekend.
Provide administrative assistance such as answering phones and routing mail, scanning archive files, prepping pages for binding, and more.

Kansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (KEC) seeks an intern for spring 2024 to join our team and assist the Government Relations/Legal and Education and Training departments, and KEC generally, in a variety of resume- building activities.
What you will do:
Successful candidates will have strong written and verbal communication skills and well-developed organizational skills. Candidates should have the ability to analyze documents and categorize content. Candidates should be proficient with the Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Candidates should be able to manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.

Ability to show good judgment, strong attention to detail, and manage projects from beginning to end.
Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to communicate professionally in-person, through various communications platforms, and in writing.
Familiarity with Google Maps is preferred.
Internship information:
This paid internship offers flexible start/end dates. This position could be part-time or full-time, based on the successful applicant’s class schedule.
Competitive pay.
The position works from the Kansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc. headquarters in Topeka. Hours are
flexible but will be scheduled during business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday).

Most of the normal duties will be performed inside, which will involve almost constant interaction with other employees, and/or the public with frequent interruptions.Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to use manual dexterity and occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess a driver's license. The employee must understand the need for and be available for some in-state travel. An occasional overnight stay may be necessary for attending meetings, if applicable.
