Rebekka Schlichting

Rebekka is an enrolled member of the Ioway Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska, is a filmmaker and co-owner of Deer Woman Productions. She’s a content creator for the YouTube series Baxoje Basics, which focuses on modern stories of the Ioway Tribe. In 2023, Rebekka directed, produced and wrote the documentary Seed Warriors, which broadcasts on Nebraska Stories and PBS Digital Studios. She has served as an impact producer for the documentaries Bring Them Home and Manzanar Diverted. She is an executive producer on the upcoming film Walking in the Footsteps of Our Ancestors: an Otoe Story. During her time as assistant director and interim director at Vision Maker Media, she executive produced multiple Native American documentaries for public media. She is a recipient of the 2017 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Wounds of Whiteclay project. Rebekka is an assistant professor of the practice at the University of Kansas William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
