Accountability Community Journalism Fellowship

Complete your education with a one-year fellowship.

Accepting applications from newly graduated aspiring storytellers interested in advancing their journalism education with a yearlong renewable fellowship in accountability journalism.

You'll have freedom to develop showcase clips of hyperlocal, human-focused, enterprising features and investigations while advancing your skills in an up-close, personal environment of traditional print journalism with expert coaching.

Last year's recipient, a new grad now working at a major magazine in New York City, won multiple statewide awards and compares his fellowship to obtaining a master's in journalism.

Located at the weekly Marion County Record in east-central Kansas, the fellowship carries an annual salary of $35,000 plus a relocation stipend of up to $2,000, funded in part by proceeds from stipulated judgments in an illegal 2023 police raid of the Record's newsroom and two homes.

Experience journalism as a vital component of vibrant democracy at a news organization featured in the Sundance documentary "Seized" and that has won numerous national and international awards.
