Communications Specialist

Orion Engineered Carbons, a global specialty chemicals company, is seeking a multimedia storyteller to be part of a two-person team as a Communications Specialist, primarily focusing on internal communications and social media.   

Essential Duties:

• Develop story ideas, report, write and edit content for Orion’s internal and external communication channels, including Orioncarbons.com, The Aggregate internal site, Intranet, news releases and social media.
• Curate Orion’s social media channels – LinkedIn, Twitter and Youtube – using sound judgement and creativity to consistently produce engaging stories and visuals – photos, videos, graphics, animations – that raise the company’s profile and inspire engagement with our target audiences.
• Assist with initiatives to translate selected content into eight languages.
• Assist with pitching stories to journalists and building stronger relationships with trade and mass-market publications.
• Build and curate a photo archive.

Qualifications: 

• The position requires a bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, English or other relevant fields of study from an accredited college or university.
• Advanced skills in photography, videography and editing (photos and videos) along with a proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign or comparable software is preferred.  
• A strong ability to work independently but know when to request assistance is required.
• A global sensibility and multicultural sensitivity is essential at Orion – an extremely international company.   
• A collaborative spirit and ability work with people with engineering, business and science backgrounds is essential.
• An insatiable desire to learn, improve and expand skillsets is required.
• Advanced speaking/reading ability in German would be a big plus.
