Director of Advertising and Marketing
Now is your chance to work in a vibrant community full of residents who value news and information. The Lawrence (Kan.) Journal-World is seeking a talented leader to serve as its next Director of Advertising and Marketing.
The Journal-World is the leading media organization in Douglas County. While our roots are in traditional newspaper publishing, we've become a diversified media company. In addition to our six-day per week newspaper, our business activities include:
• The community's most comprehensive news site, LJWorld.com
• The country's original website devoted to University of Kansas athletics, KUsports.com
• An active job fair business that hosts more than 20 events per year in eastern Kansas and western Missouri
• A niche publishing operation that produces newsletters and custom publications for school districts, arts organizations, law enforcement agencies and other entities.
• One of the state's most successful "best of" advertising contests and community celebrations.
The Director of Advertising and Marketing will lead a team of both inside and outside sales executives, in addition to conducting direct sales with some of our largest advertising cliens. First and foremost, the director will create a culture of customer service that is focused on helping business increase their prosperity. We understand that our advertising is a tool to help our clients grow and prosper.
The director will oversee marketing efforts to attract new digital subscribers to LJWorld.com and KUsports.com, both of which have well-designed subscription programs that have produced growth every year since their inception.
In addition to talented colleagues, the director will have the benefit of an engaged community that places a high value on local media. Our readers and users are well-educated, civic-minded residents who cares about their community, and who generally have significant levels of disposable income to support it.
Community members place a high value on news, and are willing to pay for it. LJWorld.com has significantly grown its digital subscription program, while maintaining a significant base of print newspaper subscribers who are some of the most loyal customers of the area business community.
Additionally, the next director will have a unique opportunity to create revenue from an online sports website that has a deep connection with University of Kansas alumni throughout the U.S. For more than two decades, KUsports.com has been the top website for coverage of KU athltics, reaching a strong audience from Wichita to Kansas City, but also driving significant traffic in KU alumni hotspots such as Chicago, Dallas, Denver and many other metro markets.
Lawrence is beautifully located between the growing the Kansas City metro area and Topeka, the state's capital city. While just a 30-minute drive from either metro, Lawrence has maintained its own sense of community. It has a vibrant downtown district, a full range of arts and entertainment options, and an extensive network of trails and public open space for outdoor enthusiasts.
