Fall Development and Marketing Intern
Hours:
3–5 hours per week on active projects, plus a weekly team meeting (1–1.5 hours). Hours may vary based on programming and campaign needs.
Compensation:
Stipend upon completion of all required responsibilities OR Journalism school credits.

KU Hillel transforms hundreds of lives every year. With our innovative and strategic approach to Jewish campus life, KU Hillel has established itself as a destination campus for Jewish students and an integral part of the leadership pipeline to many major Jewish communities. KU Hillel is an authentic and representative home for Jewish students attending the University of Kansas, seeking to build relationships with every Jewish student on KU's campus to show them that they belong in our community. We have a variety of events each week, including social gatherings, intensive learning, leadership development, and religious/ritual observances.
Position Overview
The Development, Events, and Marketing Intern plays a key role in shaping KU Hillel’s presence both on campus and within the broader community. This role blends creative marketing and communications with development (fundraising and donor engagement) efforts, including storytelling, photography, event planning, and writing.
This is an ideal opportunity for a student who is outgoing, creative, organized, and excited to tell meaningful stories while supporting campaigns that sustain and grow KU Hillel’s impact.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing, Communications & Media
- Support grassroots marketing efforts and initiatives
- Manage and execute calendar aligned with programs and campaigns
- Capture photos and videos at events to highlight student life and community impact
- Write and submit press releases, articles, and community updates highlighting KU Hillel programs and impact
- Research new opportunities to increase brand awareness and visibility
- Collaborate with staff and student leaders to ensure consistent branding and messaging
Development (Fundraising & Engagement)
- Assist with marketing and promotion of fundraising campaigns (giving days, matching campaigns, holiday appeals)
- Help draft donor communications, including emails, social media posts, and impact stories
- Conduct interviews with students, alumni, board members, and community members
- Support donor stewardship through thank-you notes, updates, and personalized outreach (including phone calls, emails and text messages)
- Track campaign performance and engagement metrics
- Maintain and update donor records and engagement tracking systems
General
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and work at least two weeks ahead when possible
- Contribute creative ideas to enhance both marketing and development efforts
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Kansas in good standing
- Experience with digital platforms such as Canva, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with an interest in journalism, communications, marketing, development or related fields
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Basic photography and video skills preferred
- Dependable, professional, and able to manage time effectively
- Creative, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with Jewish culture and community
- Experience with Google Suite is a plus, but not required
