Position Overview
The Marketing & Visual Communications Fellow will help expand Food Safety News' reach and impact through strategic social media management and compelling visual content creation. This part-time fellowship (15-20 hours per week) offers graduate students the opportunity to develop professional marketing skills while communicating vital food safety information to diverse audiences.
Responsibilities
Manage and grow Food Safety News' presence across social media platforms
Create engaging and informative infographics, charts, and visual content that translate
complex food safety data into accessible formats
Develop and implement social media content calendars and campaigns
Track and analyze social media metrics to inform content strategy
Collaborate with writers and editors to identify visualization opportunities for articles
Produce visual assets for the newsletter and website
Stay informed on food safety developments to ensure timely and relevant content
Respond to social media inquiries and foster community engagement
Qualifications
Current enrollment in a graduate program related to food safety, public health, communications, marketing, graphic design, or a related field
Understanding of food safety concepts and public health communication
Experience with social media management for professional or academic purposes
Proficiency with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva)
Data visualization skills and ability to translate statistics into compelling visuals
Strong written communication skills
Self-motivated with ability to work independently and remotely
Understanding of digital marketing principles and social media best practices
Learning Opportunities
Develop specialized skills in science and health communication
Build a portfolio of published visual content and social media campaigns
Gain experience translating complex scientific information for public audiences

Compensation & Work Arrangement
$20-30 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Fully remote position with flexible schedule
Strong preference for U.S.-based candidates
Duration: 6-month fellowship with possibility of extension
