Legislative Intern, House Democratic Leadership Office

Time commitment: 2-3 days per week | January-April 2026
Location: In-Person | Kansas State Capitol, Topeka, KS

Overview
The House Democratic Leadership Office is seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals to serve as Legislative interns during the 2026 Kansas Legislative Session. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to engage with the legislative process at the leadership level and contribute meanngfully to policy development and constituent services.

Interns will assist in a variety of tasks, including attending committee hearings, policy research, legislative  tracking, memo writing, and other related duties. In addition, interns will support administrative operations as needed.

Key responsibilities
• Attend committee hearings and take detailed notes

• Conduct research on policy issues and prepare written sumamries

• Track and analyze legislation and legislative activity.

• Draft correspondence, briefing materials, and internal reports.

• Assist with constituent services and data entry

• Support general administrative and office duties

• Demonstrated interest in politics, public policy and the legislative process

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to a fast-paced environment

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Dependable, professional demeantor with a strong work ethic

• Enrollment in or a recent graduation from a college or university program (political science, public policy, communications or related fields preferred)
