About Icorium

Icorium Engineering Company is a climate tech startup developing technologies to reduce the global warming impacts of refrigeration, one of our most important but often overlooked environmental challenges. Icorium is a woman founded and led engineering startup co-founded in 2022 by a KU professor of chemical engineering and a former KU PhD chemical engineering student. A spinout of KU’s Wonderful Institute for Sustainable Engineering, Icorium is developing  separation technologies that make it easy and affordable to recycle and reuse refrigerants to keep these critical but super potent greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere so we can keep cooling without warming the planet.

Where You’ll Work

Our offices are at the KU Innovation Park’s bioscience and technology business incubator building. Located on KU’s West Campus in Lawrence, the Park is a dynamic, innovative startup environment filled with researchers, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and students. In addition to our offices, Icorium has access to the Park’s abundant coworking spaces and amenities like free coffee, free parking, walking trails, 24-7 keycard access, and opportunities for networking and entrepreneurship programming. It’s a great place to come to work and we are mostly an in-person organization with some remote flexibility.

What You’ll Do

We’re looking for an exceptional marketing and communications intern to help us craft and tell our story to customers, investors, policy makers, researchers, and partners. You’ll be a key contributor to a fast-growing climate tech startup, helping develop Icorium’s brand and a cohesive marketing and communications strategy as we work to bring new technologies to market to solve seriously important problems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing press releases, blog and social media posts, investor decks, posters and infographics, and all kinds of other media content;
  • Managing, updating, and adding content to our website;
  • Managing our social media accounts and building our online presence and engagement;
  • Helping craft, review, and edit narrative documents such as grant applications, business plans, investor presentations, and research proposals.

  • Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to develop new skills;
  • WYSWYG web development experience---proficiency with Wordpress preferred;
  • Graphic design skills, creativity, and familiarity with basic tools like Canva, Powerpoint, Clip Champ, etc.

Who You’ll Work With

We’re a growing startup team of six scientists, engineers, and business people. You’ll work primarily under the direction of Icorium’s CEO and its Chief Strategy Officer, but will also work closely with our Heads of R&D and Engineering and with other engineering and business interns on a variety of projects. We spend as much time as possible getting out of the lab and talking with our customers, and you’ll have opportunities to join the conversations and work directly a wide range of stakeholders from industry, government, other startups, academia, and investment capital.

Compensation and Other Position Details

Title: Marketing & Communications Intern

Compensation: $18-$20/hr

Hours: 10-20 hours per week.

Schedule: Flexible with reasonable consistency. Icorium’s Working hours are M-F 8am-6pm.
