Media Intern


The Overland Park Police Department is seeking a motivated college student with an interest in media relations, communications and video production. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with a progressive and innovative police department in the second-largest community in Kansas. This position does require the intern to report/travel to the Overland Park, Kansas Police Department (12400 Foster, Overland Park, Kansas) as their primary work location.

The chosen candidates' primary duties will consist of filming/editing/producing short video clips for social media, internal training, and other department and community engagement activities.

The department offers a 20-hour work week with a flexible schedule (primarily during regular business hours) and compensation of $18 per hour.

Current University of Kansas students majoring in journalism and mass communications with concentrations in multimedia journalism or media arts and production are invited to apply. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors or those with previous experience in video production.

The selected candidate must successfully complete a polygraph examination, a background check, and a criminal history review to include fingerprinting.
