Multimedia Journalist

Are you ready for the multimedia journalism experience? News-Press NOW is the place to get it.

Our journalists provide coverage of Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas for a newsroom with a broadcast operation that includes three network affiliates, the largest website in our region and a newspaper. We’re seeking talented and driven multi-media journalists to be part of our team.

Our MMJs provide high-quality content for all our platforms, including television stations FOX 26 KNPN, NBC 21 KNPG and CBS 30 KCJO, the St. Joseph News-Press and our website, newspressnow.com. Applicants’ multimedia skills and reporting experience both are valued.

The openings call for versatile reporters who will cover general assignments and do beat reporting, including coverage of business, public safety, courts and government. These reporters should expect to give a large focus to stories – news and features – that lend themselves to multimedia storytelling.

All of our MMJs are required to sign a standard two-year employment contract and live within the St. Joseph market area.

Applicants should expect to use all of the tools of the trade to tell compelling stories focused on our core market about 40 miles north of Kansas City, Missouri. Over time, all reporters in our newsroom become true multimedia journalists in a learning environment as they add to and develop their reporting skills and receive opportunities to train as relief anchors, producers and weather personnel.

We prefer a college degree with a concentration in convergence or multimedia journalism. Candidates from the Midwest are strongly preferred.

Core requirements: commitment to journalism and multimedia news reporting; ability to learn new skills; understanding of journalism ethics, press law and the competitive aspects of daily reporting; and ability to do good work on deadline, for both broadcast and print.

A valid driver’s license and a safe driving record are also required. Employment is contingent on the passage of a drug screening and a background check.

Prospective candidates should make their interest known as soon as possible. To apply, send a brief letter of introduction, current resume, names of three references, and examples of your best work. Apply to careers@npgco.com or send your materials to Human Resources, News-Press & Gazette Co., 825 Edmond, St. Joseph, MO 64501.
