News Intern

The Harpswell Anchor is seeking a news intern for the 2024 summer break. This paid internship comes with free housing on the Maine coast and offers an opportunity to gain real-world experience and mentorship from a team of accomplished journalists.

Junior or senior standing in a postsecondary journalism program is preferred. Photojournalism students are encouraged to apply.

The intern will assist with news coverage. They will report on community events, write features and help cover local government. They may work on social media and special projects, staff Anchor events and complete miscellaneous tasks as needed.

The Anchor is a nonprofit community news organization with an award-winning website and monthly print edition. The news team includes two full-time journalists and numerous freelancers and volunteers.

The intern will receive free, private housing in a seaside cottage; Maine's minimum wage of $14.15 per hour for up to 40 hours per week; and mileage reimbursement at the IRS rate of 67 cents per mile. Must have driver's license and reliable vehicle. Must be available nights and weekends. Start and end times negotiable.

To apply, email a resume and two samples each of photography and writing to joliver@harpswellanchor.org.
