JMC welcomes two new faculty members
The University of Kansas William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications is excited to welcome Associate Professors of Practice Diego Gutierrez and Maria Scott to its faculty. They will begin Aug. 18.
“They are outstanding additions to an already outstanding faculty," Interim JMC Dean Scott Reinardy said.
Gutierrez is an on-air expert for Fox4 in Kansas City during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, providing analysis on match play and insight on the cultural and economic impact the soccer tournament will have in the country. “As a former MLS player, Dr. Gutierrez’s professional and academic credentials offer a unique opportunity for students in digital media and marketing,” Reinardy said.
Scott specializes in strategic public relations and tactical applications of PR writing, media pitching, placement and publicity. Since 2024, she has served as CEO and president of Copper Gryphon, providing media, marketing, publicity and promotions services to clients ranging from event management companies to actors and professional athletes.
