Biography

Angie Hendershot is a professor of the practice who teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in digital marketing communications, advertising and PR. She joined the school in fall 2016 after more than 20 years in public relations, marketing communications, brand and strategy. As VP of Marketing Strategy & Brand Management at Assurant, Inc., a Fortune 300 global specialty financial services company, she chaired the Assurant Marketing Council and launched the digital marketing community of practice to coordinate social, web and mobile activities across the company. Previously, Angie worked for 12 years in progressive communications, marketing and strategy roles at Sprint, spanning the local, broadband, long-distance and wireless business lines. She served on and chaired the board of directors for Community LINC, a Kansas City non-profit organization supporting homeless families, and continues to volunteer for community, youth and social justice causes.

Angie is co-author of Strategic Writing: Multimedia Writing for Public Relations, Advertising and More, 6th ed. She is a member of the American Marketing Association, the Social Media Club of Kansas City, and the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Centurions Leadership Program Alumni Association. She has been an invited presenter on PR, branding, marketing strategy, and experiential community-engaged service learning. Her research focuses on digital and social media communications, particularly online financial literacy and career navigation.
