Biography —
Darcey Altschwager has been part of the Jayhawk community and William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications since 2013. Originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism/strategic communication and a master’s degree in digital content strategy. In 2017, while completing her bachelor’s degree, she assisted with the establishment of the Center for Digital Inclusion then became a graduate research assistant to the center. In her role, she assisted with curriculum development, instructed digital literacy classes for underserved populations, and conducted research that has been published in the Journal of Applied Communication Research. While pursuing her Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communications, she continues her work as a graduate research assistant under a grant award from the National Science Foundation in support of offering technology education to women who have been recently released from jail or prison and are now seeking to reenter the job force (“returning women citizens”). In her role, she develops educational content, manages and instructs online learning modules, establishes one-on-one relationships with program participants, and assists with various research projects.
