John Watson

John Watson is an academic advisor and a lecturer in the William Allen White School of Journalism & Mass Communications at the University of Kansas. In addition to advising students, he teaches writing and communication courses and supports students as they develop their academic and professional goals. John has taught courses in public speaking, media writing and diversity in media. 

His research focuses on disability, social media influencer representation and adaptive sports media. He earned his Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communications from KU and his B.A. and M.A. in Communication from the University of Texas at Arlington, where he played wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis. Before joining the JMC school, John was a part-time freelance writer for Kansas Alumni magazine.
