Biography —
Nazra Izhar is a doctoral student and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications, University of Kansas. She holds a master’s in visual communication and a bachelor’s in mass communication and journalism from India.
Before her PhD, she worked as a reporter and host for Doordarshan, India’s public broadcaster. With five years of teaching experience, Nazra has taught both bachelor’s and master’s students in communication courses. She also served as Editor-in-Chief of a campus tabloid and worked as an advertising copywriter.
Nazra, fluent in Hindi, English, and Urdu, is deeply passionate about journalism. She has taught a range of courses including Media Writing, Public Relations, Mass Communication and Society, Information Exploration, Data Visualization, and Strategic Communication. She was awarded the Resilient Student Award by the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communication, reflecting her commitment and perseverance towards her doctoral journey.
Research —
Nazra’s research explores how individuals engage with and process health information through emerging technologies and digital media. Her work focuses on understanding how people interpret messages, particularly in the context of health behaviors and decision-making. By examining the influence of digital platforms and innovative communication strategies, she investigates the ways health information is conveyed, aiming to improve public understanding and foster informed decision-making in an increasingly digital world. Her research integrates media effects, information seeking and information processing to address issues in health communication.
