Biography

Samuel Anesu Muzhingi is a Ph.D. student and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Originally from Zimbabwe, he holds a Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Zimbabwe, and a Master of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Development Communication from Daystar University (DU) in Kenya.

His master’s thesis examined how innovative digital platforms such as iShamba support agricultural extension services in Kenya, focusing on Nyeri County. The study analyzed how communication processes and improved access to essential farming information shape agricultural decision-making, particularly within the broader context of climate change.

Before beginning his doctoral studies, Samuel worked in journalism, sub-editing, business development, and strategic communication. He is a subscribing member of the Zimbabwe Media Commission (2024).

Research

Samuel's research interests examine how emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, are adopted, regulated, and institutionalized within journalism and higher education, with attention to professional norms, regulatory frameworks, and broader social consequences. His scholarship also centers on mediated communication, mediated authority, misinformation correction, and civic engagement across digital environments, focusing on how communication infrastructures shape credibility, pedagogy, and knowledge production.
