The Lawrence Bicycle Club (LBC) in Lawrence, KS promotes cycling for recreation, health, alternative transportation, and social and community engagement. The volunteer Board-managed organization supports more than 450 members through eight weekly community rides for riders of all levels and conducts three major annual biking events that regularly attract, in combination, 750 riders from up to 18 states. One of these events, the Octoginta, has run for 56 consecutive years.

Scope: We are seeking a qualified individual to undertake a social media development project to help grow awareness, attendance, and community involvement.

1. Work with Event Directors to develop a social media project plan for promoting three major events (Lizard Under the Skillet, Tour de Chicken Creek and Octoginta), and one lesser event (Swap Meet & Expo).

2. Develop content to help tell our story online with posts, stories and Reels on a variety of social media platform.

3. Help evaluate effectiveness and make adjustments as needed.

Term: 3-6 months (negotiable)

Compensation: Negotiable, depending on experience.

Time required to complete: We estimate 5-10 hours per week will be required.

Work schedule: The contractor will set their own work schedule required to complete the project plan in a timely manner.

Projected start date: March 1, 2026

Project completion date: May 31 to August 30, 2026 (negotiable).

Required qualifications:

• Applicant should have completed coursework in the KU School of Journalism & Mass Communications.

• Have access to, or provide your own computing platform (e.g.: laptop, personal computer, smartphone).

• Proficient in working with social media plaorms such as Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok.

• Self-motivated and able to work without supervision.

Preferred qualifications:

• Prior experience assisting an organization with their social media.

• Familiarity with community-based recreational spring events, especially bicycling or running.
