White House Correspondents' Association Intern
The White House Correspondents' Association is looking for an enterprising journalism, communications, public relations or social media student for a paid internship. The intern's primary responsibilities would be developing the association's social media presence to communicate the organization's mission to its members and the general public. We are looking for someone passionate about the First Amendment, free speech and the role of the free press, and someone with creative ideas about how to influence the public conversations on those topics. We are looking for a self-starter who can develop cutting-edge campaigns and execute them. The internship is also an education opportunity to see how some of the most prominent journalists in the country work. The role is 50/50 hybrid, involving some in-person work in the Washington, D.C., area and some remote work.
The ideal candidate will be:
• A current student or recent graduate with journalism, communications, public relations or social media degree, or comparable experience
And will have these skills:
• A digital native comfortable with and familiar with the major social media platform
• Fluent writing and communication skills
• Understanding of journalistic ethics and principles
• Familiarity with videography and video editing a plus
• Number of hours expected per week.
10 hours per week, June 8 to August 14.
Pay is $20 per hour.
• Applicants should outline an idea for a social media campaign that would help communicate to the general public the importance of a free press covering the White House.
