Cuyler Dunn receives White House Correspondents' Association Scholarship

Cuyler Dunn is the 2025 University of Kansas William Allen White School of Journalism & Mass Communications WHCA Scholarship recipient. In addition to financial assistance, Dunn will travel to the annual WHCA dinner in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, April 26, be featured at a scholarship luncheon on Friday, April 25, and be paired with Steve Holland, a White House correspondent for Reuters and a former WHCA president, for a year of mentoring.

KSPA announces new director

Barbara Tholen will become the Kansas Scholastic Press Association executive director beginning Aug. 2025. Tholen has taught journalism at Lawrence High School for 15 years, following 10 years as a newspaper reporter. She will also teach classes in the JMC School and lead KU's Jayhawk Media Workshop.

Study finds only about half of AI-generated ads are labeled as such

A study by Assistant Professor Vaibhav Diwanji analyzed more than 1,000 AI-generated ads from across the web and found that they are only labeled as ads about half the time — and that they intentionally appeal to consumers in positive ways to influence them.
